#38) “Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious 2 of 2“
6 Mondays, April 1-May 6, 2:00-3:30pm.
Facilitator: DeeDee Freeman
Limit: 15 students
In Winter 2024, we investigated the different aspects of The Psyche and The Collective Unconscious, including the four major Archetypes (The Self, The Persona, The Shadow, and The Anima/Animus) and how they influence our lives. In Spring 2024, we’ll take a closer look at some of the other Jungian Archetypes, including The Trickster, The Magician, and The Wounded Healer, and examine how these archetypes play out in our modern world. Each week, we’ll watch and then discuss videos related to the topic.

In keeping with Spiritual Science Day, honored by Spiritualists each August, I wanted to share with you the extraordinary life of the Physicist and Spiritualist- Sir Oliver Lodge.
Why did I title this mini-lesson, “Sir Oliver Lodge, Champion of the Ether”?
Early in the 20th century, when most movers and shakers in physics had abandoned his “Ether of Space” theory for Einstein’s Theory of Relativity (1915), Lodge stridently defended the ether, riskinghis scientific reputation due to his association with, what was perceived at that time, the ‘losing’ side.
In spite of his reputation being questioned in scientific circles however, the general public continued to view him as the scientific “go-to person”, and actually admired Lodge for upholding his wave bearing ether theory because it best supported the new science of wireless communication that evolved into the British Broadcasting Corporation.
That’s why I title this mini-lesson, ““Sir Oliver Lodge, Champion of the Ether”:)

Each year, September 21 is observed as the International Day of Peace. Established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly, this day honors the goal of peace for all cultures, nations and religions across the globe.
This is also a celebration of history’s most influential peace advocates- among them, Dr. Maria Montessori and Mahatma Gandhi. Their combined efforts embody the 2020 World Peace Day’s Theme: “Shaping Peace Together”.
Join us as we celebrate World Peace Day and learn more about Montessori and Gandhi’s vision of “Peace Education” of the world's children!

In recent years, the expression "Age of Aquarius" refers to the hippie and New Age movements of the late 1960s and early 1970s, the culture I was raised in. In 1969, the song “Dawning of the Age of Aquarius” was a #1 hit, and it was also sung at the music festival Woodstock that same year.
The lyrics go like this:
“When the Moon is in the Seventh House, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, then Peace will guide the Planets, and Love will steer the Stars. This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius!”
As a 12yr old, I loved this song and thought that the Age of Aquarius was going to magically happen, and that I would grow up in a time, as the lyrics promised of “Harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding...”.
However, I know from astronomy that Jupiter and Mars actually line up regularly, and we're still waiting for something to magically happen. Rather than thinking of those lyrics as a prediction the way that I did when I was a child, I now think of them as a metaphoric “call to action”, a call to Humanity to align the inner world of Spirit with the outer, material world that we create. The Age of Aquarius is be about choosing harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust in our thoughts, words and deeds. This in turn has a direct impact on the world around us.
As individuals, if we actively work to align the inner and outer two worlds within ourselves, then we will indeed enter the Age of Aquarius, a time when “Peace will guide the Planets, and Love will steer the Stars!”

The Dalai Lama says “There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain and heart is our temple; our philosophy is kindness.”
Did you know that hatred cannot coexist with Love? And “Loving-Kindness” is a meditation practice which helps us develop the mental state of Unconditional Love by training our minds to identify and release negative emotions. As we practice Loving-Kindness, the need to hold grudges, harbor ill will or be hostile begins to fade away, and that negativity is replaced with a deep, abiding sense of peace and happiness. Experiencing the world from this calm, loving state of mind makes it easier to successfully navigate life’s challenges. And, those who are around people who practice Loving-Kindness feel that sense of peace and happiness as well.
The Age of Aquarius represents a shift in our collective consciousness, as Theosophist Alice Bailey tells us, by “Restoring the Plan of Love and Light on Earth”. The simple practice of Loving-Kindness can help us, as individuals, be an active part of this collective shift, and in this mini-lesson, I explain the basics of this practice so you can get started!

April 22nd celebrates Earth Day, a day on which humanity takes a moment to reflect on how inseparable our wellbeing is from that of the planet.
Last year, hundreds of millions of people in 192 countries took part in the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, inspired by the theme “Climate Action”.
This year, Earth Day turns that progress, enthusiasm, and resilience toward the 2021 theme “Restore Our Earth”.
In this mini-lesson, DeeDee takes a look at the environment of Planet Earth from a Spiritualist perspective.

“Spiritualism is a Science because it investigates, analyzes and classifies facts and manifestations from the Spirit side of life.”- from the NSAC Spiritualist Manual
Today, as I write this, many scientists quietly (and some brave souls not so quietly) continue to use scientific methods to investigate the paranormal. In doing so, they add to an evergrowing body of psi research, initiated by distinguished Spiritualist investigators such as Sir William Crookes, Sir Oliver Lodge, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Frederick W.H. Myers. While there have been many advances in this scientific study of psychic phenomena, Material Science still refuses to acknowledge these scrupulously documented experiments, choosing to discredit any professional who dares to entertain the idea of personality survival after the change called death!
I strongly encourage you to learn about this "missing link", the "Science of Spiritualism" by reading works of the early 20th century researchers, specifically-
“Survival of the Human Personality” (Myers, 1903),
“Survival of Man” (Lodge, 1909) and
“Thirty Years of Psychical Research” (Nobel Laureate Dr. Charles Richet, 1923).
NOTE: All 3 books are in the public domain, available in searchable PDF and audio book format:)
You may be surprised to discover the great lengths early Spiritualist investigators went to in creating a very credible database for future generations...like us. In my experience, the more we know about Science of Spiritualism, the sooner Science and Spirituality will be reunited once and for all.
Fast forward to the 21st Century: I also mention "The Manifesto for a Post Materialist Science", which can be found at https://opensciences.org/about/manife...

In his best selling book “The Four Agreements”, Toltec shaman don Miguel Ruiz reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that create unhappiness in our lives, robbing us of joy and causing needless suffering. Toltec wisdom embodies the same essential unity of truth as all the wisdom traditions found around the world, and while it's not a religion, it honors all the spiritual masters who have taught on the Earth.
The Four Agreements:
1. Be impeccable with your word.
2. Don't take things personally.
3. Don't make assumptions.
4. Always do your best.
These four simple yet life changing insights are a “code of conduct” that allows us to reduce stress and bring kindness, peace and joy to ourselves and those around us. By learning to avoid the negative behaviors that create frustration, blame and hurt feelings, we create our own “Heaven” right here on Earth!

Each August, Modern Spiritualism observes 2 special days- Spiritual Science Day and Andrew Jackson Davis’ birthday. The first, Spiritual Science Day, reminds us that everything in the physical world is an expression of Spirit, and this concept has been confirmed by Quantum Physics. Esteemed physicists including Max Planck and David Bohm have provided scientific evidence that matter is not primary, and when Science unites with Spirituality, we are able to more fully comprehend the many human experiences referred to as “paranormal”.
The second, Andrew Jackson Davis’ birthday, celebrates America’s first seer, born in Poughkeepsie, NY on August 11, 1826. During his lifetime, Davis channeled 30 books about Spiritual Science. His writings opened up an entirely new perspective on topics including- What happens to the soul at death, the phenomena of Spiritualism, education, health, psychology, philosophy and government. Davis inspired keen interest in the emerging alternative spirituality movement his time, with his remarkable ability to create metaphysical lectures out of what he experienced in his trance states. His life and teachings were extremely popular, being discussed in newspapers, pamphlets, books and lectures.
In this mini-lesson we take a look at into a sample of Davis’ writings that encourages us to “Embrace the Change Called Death”. As a San Francisco native who lived through the AIDS epidemic, I found his perspective refreshing and very comforting. Link to A.J. Our Guiding Principles of Spiritualism speak to us about Infinite Intelligence, how Nature is an expression of this Intelligence, and that we create our own “Heaven” or “Hell” depending on whether we choose to live by Nature’s Laws.
While there are many variations on the theme of Natural Law, many believe that the original version was put into short statements of truth over 2,000 years ago. This esoteric knowledge was passed on orally “from lips to ear” until 1908, when these original natural laws, also known as the Seven Hermetic Principles, were published in a little book called “The Kybalion”. While these principles were never intended to become a philosophy or doctrine, we can find their influence in all the world’s organized religions.
Let’s dip our toes into the deep waters of the Kybalion and see how the Seven Hermetic Principles relate to Modern Spiritualism!
